After the birth of our first son, I left behind a journalism career and started teaching others how to enjoy and share their family memories through scrapbook albums. Putting photos and stories together in a new way brought me joy, as did sharing those completed albums with my family.
We would plan afternoons and evenings to scrapbook together. Sitting around tables laden with double-sided tape, colorful papers, printed photos, and peanut M&Ms, we celebrated memories. We wanted our families to know how much they meant to us, to have some tangible evidence of our love. And so we made albums, sticking down pictures on a page and embellishing those pages with our words. We poured out our history, our hopes, and our dreams.
We connected our stories and hearts.
This work also connected us to other like-minded family historians. Some of my closest friendships have been formed and nurtured over those messy tables.
Today, I still encourage people to focus on these acts of emotional wellness. Some want to put their own albums together, and I help them find products to do that. But many others lack the time, interest, or skill to do it themselves, and so they hire me as a certified Personal Photo Organizer. (Visit my PhotoOrganize.me website to learn more about that.)
In the past several years, though, I’ve widened my focus to include nutrition, fitness, mindset, and other facets of overall health and wellness. I believe by paying attention to these topics we can be better stewards of the body, mind, and spirit that God has created within us.
This wider focus led me to the professional health coach training program at Duke Integrative Medicine in 2017. As a coach, I partner with individuals and groups to create a vision and improve outcomes for their health and well-being.
