You 2.0: Launch a Wellness Reset

You started the new year with high hopes, dreams you were ready to put into place, and wellness goals for yourself. Is it time now for a wellness reset? In any year, at any time, our plans can get sidetracked. And life this year has gone all askew, thanks to a pandemic. But we still have nearly a half year left. Setting SMART Goals for Success

Whether you're in the early stages of changing some habits to improve your health or trying to keep a new year's resolution on track, it's always a good time to ask yourself if you're setting SMART goals. Our best intentions to create new habits sometimes fall short of success simply because our plans lack thoroughness. They may be too vague or unrealistic. So what can help? SMART goals, … [Read more...] about Setting SMART Goals for Success

It’s Easy Eating Green When You Join a CSA

If you want to get more veggies in your diet and support a local farmer, join a CSA. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. And when you join a CSA, you're buying local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Your "share," "membership," or "subscription" pays for a certain number of weeks of produce (or other items such as eggs or meat) up-front. This helps the farmer's cash flow and … [Read more...] about It’s Easy Eating Green When You Join a CSA

Take Small Steps to Create Habits

Sometimes the doctor delivers a diagnosis and says we must make changes now, or else. And other times, we simply know we need to do some things differently to improve our health. But maybe it's hard to get moving in the right direction. Changing how we eat feels burdensome. And starting an exercise routine seems overwhelming. So we procrastinate. Because it all seems so big. But guess … [Read more...] about Take Small Steps to Create Habits

boost your intake of omega-3 by eating more salmon and walnuts

Boost Your Omega-3 Intake

To counter the typical American diet, we can boost our omega-3 intake for better health. We all need essential fatty acids - omega-6 and omega-3 - for our bodies to function properly. Both are polyunsaturated fatty acids that the body cannot make adequately on its own. So we must get them from our diet. But most of us get too much omega-6 fatty acids. Primarily, these come from processed … [Read more...] about Boost Your Omega-3 Intake

stress eating doesn't have to derail our healthy habits. walk away

Walk Away from Stress Eating

Stress eating can hit at any time. Faced with a challenge, or boredom, or discomfort, we find ourselves pawing in the pantry or digging in the fridge. And then we eat whatever might give us temporary pleasure, not because we're physically hungry. Most often, we reach for the high carbohydrate, high fat, high sugar foods. That's because when we're stressed, high levels from the hormone … [Read more...] about Walk Away from Stress Eating

Coaching is a partnership between a trained, professional coach and a client who wants or needs to reach particular goals or boost their personal and professional potential. Image is of two people shaking hands in partnership

People typically have questions about health coaching, whenever I introduce myself as a coach. And often, depending on the time someone has to talk, the questions start out general and then move to the specific and personal. Perhaps you have a few questions yourself. So today, let’s take a look at some of these frequently […]

How have you been wanting to challenge yourself ph How have you been wanting to challenge yourself physically?

Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

But it's important to build in rest days, too. Taking regular breaks allows your body to recover and repair. Otherwise, you may risk overtraining and injury, or burnout. Rest days could mean chilling on the sofa or engaging in more active rest - taking a gentle walk, foam rolling, or practicing yoga.

What's your schedule of exercise, physical activity, and rest look like this week? What positive effects will that have in other areas of your life?

First, shelling them took me back more than a few years to when I would shell butter beans and black-eyed peas alongside my grandmother and look forward to our supper together. 💚 We all have memories and associations attached to different foods. What are some of yours? How do they show up in the choices you make around eating?

Second, these peas were delicious and simple, boiled for one minute and seasoned with real butter and salt. What a gift! It's garden season, y'all. What are you most looking forward to preparing for yourself this summer?
