PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

For Better Health, Chase Your Dreams

chase dreams as you develop yourself personally and professionally

What reminds you to chase your dreams?

As children, most of us had an innate curiosity and believed that one day we could be and do anything. Then somewhere along the way, some of us lost sight of those beliefs and dreams.

So now, sometimes we need reminders.

We may need to reflect on where we are – both personally and professionally. And think about what our lives could be like if we discovered more joy and satisfaction. If we still chased some dreams.

What reminds you to chase your dreams?

Twenty years ago, my family lived across the street from a little boy who would wander over anytime we were outside. We may have been mowing the grass, washing the car, cleaning the garage, or trying to fix something. Brice would show up quietly and stand there watching us, curious.

What are you doing? He would ask every time. And we would greet him and answer his question, which he quickly followed with a second one.

Why are you doing it?

We’d answer that question, too. But, his curiosity not satiated, he quickly followed it with a third question:

Do you like it?

My husband and I still randomly ask each other Brice’s three questions even now: What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Do you like it?

The questions cause me to pause a moment and be mindful of what I am doing.

So today I ask you the same.

Professionally – What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Do you like it?

Personally – What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Do you like it?

What’s important to you professionally? Are you involved in meaningful work? Do you know your purpose, or do you build it? When is it time to stop and recharge?

How about personally? What hobbies and interests are important to you? What makes you come alive and feel connected?

Within our professional and personal lives, we can find meaning and purpose in life. These areas enhance or detract from our joy and our health. That’s why it’s one of the spokes on the Wheel of Health.

What dreams do you need to chase?

How happy are you with your personal and professional development? What parts need to change? What should stay the same?

Is there a dream that you would like to recall from the past and pursue now? What stops you? What first steps could you take to restart pursuing that dream?

So it’s your turn.

What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Do you like it?

Comment below and tell us how this area impacts you and your overall health.

People typically have questions about health coaching, whenever I introduce myself as a coach. And often, depending on the time someone has to talk, the questions start out general and then move to the specific and personal. Perhaps you have a few questions yourself. So today, let’s take a look at some of these frequently […]

How have you been wanting to challenge yourself ph How have you been wanting to challenge yourself physically?

Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

But it's important to build in rest days, too. Taking regular breaks allows your body to recover and repair. Otherwise, you may risk overtraining and injury, or burnout. Rest days could mean chilling on the sofa or engaging in more active rest - taking a gentle walk, foam rolling, or practicing yoga.

What's your schedule of exercise, physical activity, and rest look like this week? What positive effects will that have in other areas of your life?

First, shelling them took me back more than a few years to when I would shell butter beans and black-eyed peas alongside my grandmother and look forward to our supper together. 💚 We all have memories and associations attached to different foods. What are some of yours? How do they show up in the choices you make around eating?

Second, these peas were delicious and simple, boiled for one minute and seasoned with real butter and salt. What a gift! It's garden season, y'all. What are you most looking forward to preparing for yourself this summer?
