April 1, we all know, is April Fool’s Day. It’s also my friend Judy’s 65th birthday. You might expect she’s been the victim of a few birthday pranks through the years.
This year, Judy already has made her birthday wishes known.
It’s for everyone to complete a Random Act of Kindness. That’s #RAK, if you post to social media and know what a hashtag is.
She made her request on Facebook.
“I have decided that nothing would make me happier than to have you bless someone with a simple random act of kindness on my day or during my birthday month.
”While I have always loved the concept of going the extra mile, perhaps the movie ‘Pay It Forward’ cemented the concept in my soul and now I have the privilege of working with a company of big time believers in Ghandi’s philosophy of ‘You Must be the Change You Wish to See in the World’.”
I met Judy through that company, and I’ve seen the joy and enthusiasm she brings to life. So I’m not at all surprised she’s a big fan of the Be the Change Foundation, which in addition to giving a portion of proceeds to worthy causes also designates the first day of every month as #RAK Day.
Ideally, the Random Act of Kindness is an anonymous donation of time, effort, or money, but if you want to share your birthday #RAK from April 1 or anytime this upcoming month with Judy, you can comment below or send her birthday wishes on Facebook. If you decide to post your acts of kindness on Twitter or Instagram, use the #RAK hashtag, and let’s see the response.
Happy Birthday, Judy! Thank you for making the world a brighter and better place!
(To my sister, it looks like you’re safe this year on April Fools. No need to look over your shoulder. You should thank Judy.)
