COVID-19 highlights how we're all connected, and how we need to focus on self-care for all, all the time

COVID-19: It’s Time for Self Care for All

Even before COVID-19, I was a big advocate for self care. In my work as an integrative health coach, I encourage women especially (though hello guys, I see you and work with you too!) to take care of themselves, so they can continue to care for who and what’s most important to them. And now, from all angles, we’re all being asked to do just that worldwide. We must care well for … [Read more...] about COVID-19: It’s Time for Self Care for All

resilience can be built, and supportive relationships can make a difference

Resilience: What Is It, and How Can I Get More of It?

Resilience is defined as toughness, or "the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties." And in researcher language, it's "positive adaptation despite adversity." But is it something we're born with? Can we develop more of it? And can we use it up as we go through life? When Resilience Begins Science indicates that resilience is not uniform across people, places, or situations. So … [Read more...] about Resilience: What Is It, and How Can I Get More of It?

what can you envision for your health

Stuck in Unhealthy Habits? What Can You Envision?

Unhealthy habits can be tough to shake, and we beat ourselves up for lacking willpower. So let's take it back to a core question: What can you envision? Or, in other words, what do you want to be different about your health and life? Many times, we don't consider this question unless we have to change something in response to illness or injury. Then, with the plantar fasciitis, or the … [Read more...] about Stuck in Unhealthy Habits? What Can You Envision?

celebrate small steps. celebrate knowledge. begin again.

Celebrate Each Success, and Begin Again

When we decide we're ready to take a healthy step forward, we set out determined. We prepare to take action. Inside, we're not sure we actually can reach our goal, perhaps, but we jump in anyway. Call it optimism, or craziness. Our resolve may last five minutes, five weeks, five months. We have fits and starts. And it can be easy to beat ourselves up over the fits and restarts. But as we … [Read more...] about Celebrate Each Success, and Begin Again

spirituality and faith are connected to our overall health and well-being

Deepen Your Spirituality for Better Health

Spirituality and faith, although highly personal and often private, play a significant role in the health of many people. That's why it's an area of focus on the Wheel of Health. Spirituality is at the core of a person's being. In what do you find purpose and meaning? In what do you find strength? Where do you find comfort, and hope? Nearly half of Americans describe themselves as religious and … [Read more...] about Deepen Your Spirituality for Better Health

chase your dreams as you develop yourself personally and professionally

For Better Health, Chase Your Dreams

What reminds you to chase your dreams? As children, most of us had an innate curiosity and believed that one day we could be and do anything. Then somewhere along the way, some of us lost sight of those beliefs and dreams. So now, sometimes we need reminders. We may need to reflect on where we are - both personally and professionally. And think about what our lives could be like if we … [Read more...] about For Better Health, Chase Your Dreams

Coaching is a partnership between a trained, professional coach and a client who wants or needs to reach particular goals or boost their personal and professional potential. Image is of two people shaking hands in partnership

People typically have questions about health coaching, whenever I introduce myself as a coach. And often, depending on the time someone has to talk, the questions start out general and then move to the specific and personal. Perhaps you have a few questions yourself. So today, let’s take a look at some of these frequently […]

How have you been wanting to challenge yourself ph How have you been wanting to challenge yourself physically?

Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

But it's important to build in rest days, too. Taking regular breaks allows your body to recover and repair. Otherwise, you may risk overtraining and injury, or burnout. Rest days could mean chilling on the sofa or engaging in more active rest - taking a gentle walk, foam rolling, or practicing yoga.

What's your schedule of exercise, physical activity, and rest look like this week? What positive effects will that have in other areas of your life?

These English peas were so good, they're getting t These English peas were so good, they're getting their own post.

First, shelling them took me back more than a few years to when I would shell butter beans and black-eyed peas alongside my grandmother and look forward to our supper together. 💚 We all have memories and associations attached to different foods. What are some of yours? How do they show up in the choices you make around eating?

Second, these peas were delicious and simple, boiled for one minute and seasoned with real butter and salt. What a gift! It's garden season, y'all. What are you most looking forward to preparing for yourself this summer?
