So today, let's take a look at some of these frequently asked questions about coaching, and some answers. We'll start with the … [Read more...] about 3 Questions I’m Constantly Asked about Coaching

Mind-body practices such as meditation, yoga, and focused breathing help stimulate the vagus nerve and the parasympathetic nervous system.

Mind-Body Practices to Complete the Stress Cycle

Mind-body practices strengthen our parasympathetic nervous system, which tells us to relax after a threat is past. And when this system operates effectively, we complete the stress cycle. We relax. But what happens when chronic or severe stress prevents that "rest and digest" system from kicking in? Over time, it can harm our health. Research indicates that our thought patterns and … [Read more...] about Mind-Body Practices to Complete the Stress Cycle

This is Your Brain On Stress

Stress sometimes gets a bad rap. Most of the time, we think of stress as something negative, and it can be. Stress can lead to a host of health issues including heart disease and cognitive decline. But other types of stress can deliver benefits, including to your brain. Defined in part as a physical and mental reaction to life's experiences, stress affects all of us. But not in the same ways … [Read more...] about This is Your Brain On Stress

Your routine changes, as you juggle established priorities and new caregiving-related ones. And you want to be at … [Read more...] about Care for the Caregiver: Prioritizing Your Loved One and Yourself

COVID-19 highlights how we're all connected, and how we need to focus on self-care for all, all the time

COVID-19: It’s Time for Self Care for All

Even before COVID-19, I was a big advocate for self care. In my work as an integrative health coach, I encourage women especially (though hello guys, I see you and work with you too!) to take care of themselves, so they can continue to care for who and what’s most important to them. And now, from all angles, we’re all being asked to do just that worldwide. We must care well for … [Read more...] about COVID-19: It’s Time for Self Care for All

How have you been wanting to challenge yourself ph How have you been wanting to challenge yourself physically?

Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

But it's important to build in rest days, too. Taking regular breaks allows your body to recover and repair. Otherwise, you may risk overtraining and injury, or burnout. Rest days could mean chilling on the sofa or engaging in more active rest - taking a gentle walk, foam rolling, or practicing yoga.

What's your schedule of exercise, physical activity, and rest look like this week? What positive effects will that have in other areas of your life?

First, shelling them took me back more than a few years to when I would shell butter beans and black-eyed peas alongside my grandmother and look forward to our supper together. 💚 We all have memories and associations attached to different foods. What are some of yours? How do they show up in the choices you make around eating?

Second, these peas were delicious and simple, boiled for one minute and seasoned with real butter and salt. What a gift! It's garden season, y'all. What are you most looking forward to preparing for yourself this summer?
